THE WINTER’S TALE

JULY 13 TO AUGUST 10 • Rexville-Blackrock AMPHITHEATRE

For the first time in Shakespeare NW’s history since its inaugural performance in 2001, we are proud to present to you Shakespeare’s striking The Winter’s Tale this 2024 season. Set between two opposing societal structures—one representing measured winter, the other vibrant spring—this contemporary telling of a fairytale transcends space and time to explore a series of poignant questions:

When our perceptions are challenged, do we have the capacity to listen and to allow our minds to be changed by another?

After the hurt has been inflicted, is forgiveness yet possible? is another chance?

Consumed by unfounded jealousy, King Leontes accuses his innocent wife Hermione of infidelity and suffers the consequences of his mistakes. As the play unfolds, we are transported through decades, from the icy court of Sicilia to the pastoral beauty of Bohemia. Along the way, we encounter an ensemble of iconic characters, from the indomitable Paulina, who defends Hermione’s innocence, to the irresistible rogue Autolycus. But it is ultimately the question of reconciliation that takes center stage through each ensuing relationship. As secrets are uncovered and wounds begin to heal, is there hope for forgiveness that can resonate across the generations?
