This year, we are seeking directorial proposals for a season that will include 2 Main Stage productions to be performed in repertory (Evening performances and weekend matinees at the Rexville Blackrock Amphitheater throughout the months of July and August. Rehearsals at Rexville Grange June-July and at a to be determined venue during the month of May). Traditionally, our seasons have consisted of one Comedy and one Tragedy or History.
All proposals should include a general concept and vision statement that provides an overview of set design, staging dynamics and costume concepts in consideration of an outdoor performance venue that has minimum artificial lighting/sound amplification. A stage plot can be provided upon request. Additionally, as the Shakespeare Northwest company has a strong complement of female actors, your statement should indicate how balanced gender representation will be achieved. Please also indicate a minimum and maximum cast size, indicating a plan for double/multiple/cross casting in your minimum configuration. General material and technical needs should be indicated, but no provisional budget is required. This will be negotiated with directors upon selection of the season. Please provide a copy of your cut script with your proposal. If it is not ready at time of proposal we will require it before selection of the season is finalized. The proposal does not need to be more than 1-2 pages.
If you have not previously directed a production for Shakespeare Northwest, we ask that you please include a directorial resume and references along with your proposal. Multiple proposals are welcome.
The following proposals would be given preferential consideration:
Plays we have not produced in over 10 years: All’s Well That Ends Well, Antony and Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Measure for Measure, Richard III, Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Winter’s Tale.
Plays we have never produced: Coriolanus, Henry IV pt 1 or 2, Henry VI pt 1, 2, or 3, Henry VIII, King John, Othello, Pericles, Richard II, Timon of Athens, Troilus and Cressida.
